  • Fighting Burnout: It’s Not All Up to You - ELC2020 Pre Con

Almost all resilience efforts are directed toward individuals. However, it is equally, if not more important, to address systemic or institutional causes.

Join us at ELC 2020 for our Pre-Con, Fighting Burnout: It’s Not All Up to You, on Thursday, October, 15, 1:00 - 5:00 p.m. as we address these topics. Attendees will discover the causes and consequences of burnout and compassion fatigue at the individual level and the organizational level. Strategies to build resilience to counter these effects at the individual and organizational levels will be discussed.

This preconference also includes a prewebinar on 9/23 and post webinar on 11/20 to greater enhance application and understanding of the course materials.

Presenter: Anne Mejia-Downs PT, MPH, PhD

  • Education Research: How to Begin Your Journey (Mini-GAMER)

Education Leadership Partnership of the American Physical Therapy Association (APTA) is working collaboratively (APTA, ACAPT, and APTA Academy of Education) to put recommendations into action that support the development of the next generation of education researchers. An urgent need is to provide guidance to novice researchers in developing competence in the essential building blocks and tools for successful research. Education research needs to move beyond the show and tell or descriptive phase of one (one program, one classroom, one clinic) to research that is grounded in meaningful questions linked with appropriate research designs and conceptual framing that can inform and advance education research in physical therapy. This two-day, pre-conference workshop will provide opportunities for participants to build on their education research question of interest and engage in a participatory workshop with research mentors that leads to a plan of action for each participant. The value of this workshop lies in both group and individual mentoring that provides participants with identified next steps and resources to develop their educational research. Participants will be exposed to resources provided by APTA, the Foundation of Physical Therapy, APTE and ACAPT that support educational research.
